Humanities is a course that combines both traditional English and history. It uses a variety of literary, historical, and cultural readings in combination with essay writing and group projects to answer the question: “What does it mean to be human?”
Education is a challenge for governments across the world. Funding per pupil can be low leading to highly generalized, public, schools which can limit student exploration and freedom. To take a closer look at the issue, my group and I were tasked with designing an “ideal school.” My group designed a school that merged the specialized education present in vocational schools with many different college majors, which resulted in a school that would prepare students for college and beyond, while still in High School. Satire uses humor to criticize society. As a conclusion to our unit, each student was asked to write an essay about a satirical piece. I wrote my essay about how a satire, when clear and well written, is often a more effective form of persuasion than a traditional argumentative piece.
