Hobbies and Extracurriculars

Math

My passion for math began in 4th grade, when I first participated in the Perennial Math Competition. It was my first experience approaching math in a nonconventional way, and I enjoyed using creative and unorthodox methods to solve problems. In 6th grade, I was admitted to AMSA. Since then, I have been part of the math teams. I've participated in and won top awards in many competitions, including IMLEM, MathCounts, WOCOMAL, the Massachusetts Math Olympiad, New England Math League, Purple Comet, AMC 8, 10 and 12, and AIME. Recently, I participated in HiMCM and MTFC. I love math, especially using it to solve real-world problems.

Science and Technology

I am very passionate about Science, and have been a member of my school's Science Bowl team since 7th grade. I love Science Bowl because of the friendships I've formed and the thrill of competing against other teams at the Northeast, New England Regional, and MIT Science Bowl competitions. In the past two New England Regional Science Bowls, my team advanced to the playoffs, which was an exciting accomplishment.

Beyond Science Bowl, I've been involved in FTC in 9th and 10th grade and CyberPatriot. My FTC team placed 2nd and 4th in 2024 and 2025 respectively. My CyberPatriot team reached the semifinals in 2025.

Student Government

I served on AMSA student government during 9th and 10th grade, and was re-elected for 11th grade before coming here. We met regularly to plan campus events and address school concerns. I helped organize events like homecoming, fundraisers, field trips, and uniform sales, and I supported pep rallies, prom, and other school activities. These experiences have taught me leadership, teamwork, and the importance of making a positive impact. I'm excited to get involved and contribute to the school community.

Community Service

I served as an assistant coach for the AMSA Middle School Math Team, where I helped organize practices and develop competition skills for middle school students, and I enjoy tutoring as a meaningful way to support others. I also assisted with hands-on STEM activities through STEM Saturdays at the public library and supported STEM enrichment programs at Tatnuck Elementary School. I volunteered with the Community Harvest Project to help families access nutritious produce.

One of my most significant sources of community service hours was the Calculus Club. The Calculus Club was designed in order to give students a place to learn AP Calculus BC topics, as Mass Academy doesn't offer it as a standalone course. Every week, I either taught one of the 10 chapters in AP Calculus BC or led FRQ practice sessions.

Through these experiences, I've learned the value of service, teamwork, and making a positive impact in my community.

Tennis and other Hobbies

I enjoy playing tennis and have been a member of my school's varsity team since 9th grade. Being on the team has been an amazing experience—it's helped me make great friends and taught me valuable lessons about teamwork, perseverance, and pushing myself to improve.

In addition to tennis, I enjoy basketball, fishing, photography, playing the violin, and reading about Greek/Roman, American, and Chinese history.
