Math Modeling

Math Modeling, taught by Mrs. Durost, is a class that allows for creativity and communication through various projects and presentations. Through activities such as the problem of the week, we learn how to communicate our answers to open modeling questions in reports. That’s not all, though! We also participated in various math competitions, including the New England Math League (NEML) and the Massachusetts Mathematics League (MAML).

AV Project Proposal

To foster communication, we work on the Modeling the Future Challenge (MTFC), attempting to solve emerging or persistent problems through mathematics. In our project, we focused on the increase of greenhouse gases in our environment. To mitigate the impact, we analyzed how autonomous vehicles (AVs) would impact the future and affect the climate.

The Epsilon School

We worked on several modeling projects this year. In this one, we focused on identifying the best hiring strategy for new teachers based on the student population. We used Excel to identify the initial ratio between students and teachers. When the new students were added, the new student-teacher ratios were compared to identify which departments required additional staff.
