The Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics, or STEM, course of Mass Academy primarily focuses on our STEM1 project, which we will be working on for the majority of the school year. I decided to make my project a way of recording drawing/writing on paper and displaying it on screen in real time. My main motivation for this project is that when writing left-handed, you have to lift your hand up off the paper every time you need to see what you just wrote, which can waste a lot of time. This could also be useful just for papers with a lot of messy notes, such as math or physics work. I’m really excited to be able to work on this project and to present it at a STEM fair held in February. The STEM teacher, Dr. Crowthers, provides us with many resources and is a huge help in guiding us to the completion of our projects and presentations, making it all a lot easier. Before we got into the meat of the STEM1 project, however, we had a mini project called the Build Something project. We were paired up and we gave our partner a physical disadvantage someone we know is dealing with to solve. I was given back pain due to a dislocated disk, so I designed a reacher that wouldn’t require the user to bend over. With limited resources, I had to make it out of cardboard, which wasn’t sturdy enough for this project. It was a great introduction to STEM projects, likely making the STEM1 project a little easier.
Come back in January for more information.
