This was the first essay we wrote this school year. The theme of this year is sci-fi, so the first essay focused on technology. In this essay, I compared the effectiveness of two of Bradbury’s works ¬— “The Pedestrian” and “August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains.” Both works show dystopian societies where technology becomes more dominant than humans.
This was the first creative essay we did in the class. My partner, Izzy, and I wrote ours about homophobia because it was an important subject for her. We had to use the satire techniques that we studied in class (which are highlighted in the different colors). We modeled the essay off “A Modest Proposal” by Johnathan Swift and, I’m quite happy with the outcome of this essay.
