Humanities, or more commonly known as Hum, is a course instructed by Ms. Small. In humanities, students discuss topics that touch on society and human nature. Students also work on developing their writing and communication skills throughout the year.
One of our first essays was about education. One aspect of education that I am passionate about is standardized testing, so I chose to write an argumentative piece about the MCAS. Throughout the assignment, I discuss reasons why the MCAS is more harmul than beneficial to students and why the funds used to support it should be diverted to more meaningful causes.
Recently, students have completed to satirical unit in humanities. For this essay, the goal was to analyze a satirical piece and compare its effectiveness in persuasion to a straight piece. Here, I analyze a video that satirizes the inaction of large corporations when it comes to climate change and an article from CNN.
