“As I came home through the woods with my string of fish, trailing my pole, it being now quite dark, I caught a glimpse of a woodchuck stealing across my path, and felt a strange thrill of savage delight, and was strongly tempted to seize and devour him raw; not that I was hungry then, except for that wildness which he represented.” - Henry David Thoreau, Walden.

Definitely NOT Walden, sorry Ms. Small!
I really enjoy working with yarn. I have the most experience with crochet, a hobby I picked up out of boredom in 2020 and continued because I really liked it. The below picture is a set of baby booties that I crocheted for a family friend's baby a little while back. Recently, however, I've been learning to knit at the MAMS knitting and crocheting club with Mrs. Chase, which has been really fun as well!
Mass Academy is a very challenging environment where collaboration is necessary for students to thrive. However, the class comes from all different parts of Massachusetts, so we don't know each other well at the start of the year. As a way to bond with each other, the juniors are taken to Camp Bournedale for a retreat where we do water sports, team-building challenges, hiking, and STEM. Other parts of the experience include the culmination of a project based on our summer reading and karaoke. Bournedale was a whirlwind of meeting new people and doing fun activities, and I absolutely loved it.
The skits! You may have heard that the incoming Mass Academy class has to read Walden over the summer. While it is quite a dense read, we are then given a very fun assignment in Humanities - to make our own skits that are in some way related to Thoreau or Walden. My group (Mary, Anh, and myself) chose to portray what would happen if Henry David Thoreau was transported to the modern day and became a therapist. We then perform these skits on the stage at Bournedale, which was my personal favorite part of the trip.
