Tired of learning math through long, busywork assignments and repetitive practice problems? At Mass Academy, Math Modeling focuses on applying math to real-world situations. Taught by Mrs. Durost, this unique course exposes students to open-ended problems that emphasize collaboration and deeper problem analysis.
MTFC, or Modeling the Future Challenge, is a competition where groups of five students complete real actuarial work. Teams compete by making data-driven recommendations to address modern societal issues. Although the competition is still ongoing, our team has chosen to focus on the issue of crime in cities.
Download the PDFA POW, or Problem of the Week, is a group project that we are given one week to complete. For this problem, we had to create a formula or set of steps to determine the day of the week on which someone was born. This required an understanding of modulo, which represents the remainder after division.
