The humanities course at MAMS is taught by Ms. Small. We read literary, historical, and cultural pieces, aiming to answer the question: “What does it mean to be human?” The course is more unrestricted, allowing students to choose what they want to write about instead of being given a prompt.
The first essay of our year aimed at analyzing which short story, written by Ray Bradbury, more effectively presented a theme chosen by us students. The two short stories were “August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains” and “The Pedestrian.”
As we moved later in the year, students were given more freedom on what we wanted to write about. In this assignment, we chose one or two satirical pieces as well as created our own topic. I analyzed my satire, about sports, effectiveness at portraying its message.
