This course is very different from past math classes I’ve taken. We work on modeling real-life problems using mathematical concepts we already know. In addition to this, we participate in various math competitions including HiMCM, MTFC, and NEML.
This problem of the week challenged us to see if we could develop a mathematical process to find the day of the week a person was born. The biggest challenge in finding a solution was the limitation of only being able to use division, multiplication, addition, and subtraction. Here is my group's solution.
Modeling The Future Competition is a national math modeling competition high school students take part in for a chance to win scholarship money. To begin the process, my team was tasked to model aspects of a set of diabetes data provided by MTFC. In addition to this, we had to develop our project proposal that we will continue working on after Phase 1. For our project proposal, we decided to focus on invasive species and finding ways to mitigate them. View our process so far here.
