humanities

Humanities is a class at Mass Academy that combines both English and history in one course. We start in the summer, by reading the novel Walden, and then build off of this throughout the year. Throughout this class, we complete numerous creative projects including making skits and writing satires. Other than projects, we also complete many readings and often have large class discussions to analyze what we read.

blissful boulevard

Recently, we were tasked with creating a satire on a topic of our choice in almost any format we wanted to. Kayla and I decided to create a satire in the style of a vignette that satirizes the idea of road rage. In our satire, we create testimonials for numerous people talking about “Blissful Boulevard”. This street is a long strip of road in which numerous crashes and horrible driving take place. However, through it all, people never get angry and rather are overly kind and understanding to one another. You can take a look at our completed vignette to the right!

walden skits

The first major project that we did in humanities this year was the Walden skits. As mentioned before, Walden was one of our summer reading books, and it was about a man named Thoreau who spent a few years living alone in the woods, He documented his time in the woods and turned his experience into a popular novel My group decided to make a skit in which Thoreau was portrayed as a wild creature and we talked about his time in the woods through the lens of a National Geographic documentary. You can read the script we made for our play to the left!
