Math modeling is a math class that basically applies math to situations you wouldn't think used it as much. It's taught by Ms. Burns, who also runs the Math Team at Mass Academy. This class is focused on a lot of discussion and collaboration, just as a lot of other classes are here. We go through the pre-calc course, by using knowledge from our past classes. We also do a shuffling unit at the beginning of the year, which is a lovely unit.
Instead of using a calendar like anyone else would, for the assignment to the right, we used mathematical principles to find the day your birthday would be in any given year. I did this with my group mates Erica Dong, and Ethan Zhou, where we incorporated a bit of knowledge from our shuffling unit to solve this application problem.
Next to this is our Epsilon Project and Presentation! In the application problem, we had to find the predicted number of students based on the ratios of the previous year, while also considering the dropout rate, which was relatively hard to consider. I worked with Rishab Nair, Erica Dong, and Cecilia Carbonell to solve and present this problem.
