The math course at Mass Academy focuses on problem-solving skills to enable critical thinking and as well as developing mathematical models. Mathematica, a mathematics software, is used to help with mathematical models. Beyond just focusing on mathematical modeling, students in this class are tasked with solving interesting mathematical problems.
HiMCM is a mathematical modeling contest which Mass Academy participates in that spans over a 36-hour time period of work. HiMCM is done in teams of four, where each team is able to choose one out of two available problems. My team chose problem A, which asked to find the best summer job for high school students, in which my team and I created three models, two of which included the use of Java. The HiMCM paper is shown below.
