Humanities

Humanities is taught by Mrs. Small and centers around the following question: "What does it mean to be human?". In the class, we explore many different facets of humanity, such as the education system, rhetoric, and satire, that make us who we are. In the class, we read various texts and write analytical and creative pieces that dig deep into the readings. On this page, you'll find some of the writing assignments I've completed this year, along with a creative group presentation.

Satirical Analysis

A crucial component of a compelling argument is the ability of the speaker to logically explain flaws or break down a complex issue into a simple matter. An often under-appreciated medium of expression is satire. Satire involves the use of humor and irony to critique different aspects of human character. In class, we read a variety of different satires, including Jonathan Swift's famous A Modest Proposal, and we were tasked with writing a satirical analysis on a satire of our choice at the end of the unit. Attached you'll find my essay which focuses on the dangers of materialism without any true connection to the human aspects of the world.

School Design Assignment

The first unit in Humanities surrounded the education system and how it has influenced human development. Beginning with the days of the first public schools to now, going to school has always seemed forced. As a solution to this, I designed an idealized version of a school in a group with Ananth, Rohan, and Rishi. Attached is the pitch for our school, including the proposed curriculum, extracurriculars, and other school specifics.
