I'm currently a Junior at the Massachusetts Academy of Math & Science at WPI. I was born in Chennai, India and lived there for the first two years of my life. I moved to the U.S. in September of 2012 and initially lived in Chicago for a while. From there, I moved to Worcester, where I lived for 6 years, until 2018, when I moved to my current home in Westborough. My family consists of me, my sister, and my mom and dad. During summer vacations, I usually go back to India for a few weeks to visit my extended family.
Before coming to MAMS, I attended Westborough High School for two years. At WHS, I participated in various extracurriculars and clubs, including Speech & Debate, Science Fair, and Math Team. Through these experiences, I've met many new people, traveled to tournaments across New England, and developed skills that have helped me both inside and outside of school. Scroll down to read more about my specific involvements in each activity.
At WHS, I participated in Public Forum Debate for two years, traveling to tournaments on weekends and participating in practices during the week. Debate was one of my favorite activities and from it, I got better at speaking, researching, and met a lot of new people. Here is a photo of me and my friends at a tournament in November 2024.
Math Team has been a part of my life since middle school. I’ve always been around math, but participating in math team allowed me to practice skills that I otherwise wouldn’t have learned. I've made many friends throughout the process, making it even more memorable and enjoyable for me. Not only have I been able to participate in local WOCOMAL meets, but also invitationals at Yale, Brown, and more.
I’ve been a part of Science Fair since sophomore year, and I hope to build on my knowledge of the research process this year in STEM. Last year, I did a synthetic biology project on the degradation of PFAS chemicals and want to explore more into the fields of biology, chemistry, and math this year.
Since freshman year, I’ve volunteered as an SAT Math Tutor online for Schoolhouse. As part of a program partnered with Khan Academy, I created my own practice materials for 4-week courses throughout the year.
While I don’t travel a lot, it’s always fun when I do. Here are some pictures of me and my family on some of our trips. We usually only travel during the summer, so I probably haven’t been to some of the places that you have, but I’ve had a lot of fun.
Throughout my life, I’ve always participated in one sport or another. My favorite sports are basketball, cricket, and soccer. While I primarily play with my friends for fun, rather than competitively, whenever I do play, it’s often the most enjoyable thing I do all day.
