Conclusion

The way we use technology is tied with societal and cultural values. What we think and believe in influences what we make and how we use it, and also vice versa. These men wanted to make robots to replace their wives because they did not value their autonomy, humanity, or identities. They fundamentally did not see their wives as people, much less as their equals. Their ideal wife would be there to serve their desires and wants. These beliefs that they hold are what make Dis create the robots in the first place. Without the “need” there isn't really a market. However, it's highly unlikely that these men would have decided to go through the effort to create robots of their wives on their own or seriously consider doing such a thing with the availability of the tech being presented to them so easily. In this way, technology is able to reinforce, validate, and fortify the ideals that they already hold. Because these men hold limiting and misogynistic views of women and see them as literal objects, they don't have reservations about their wives (their life partners and supposed equals) being replaced by a robot that is made to fulfill their wants and desires of the ideal housewife. The husbands use this technology available to them to further drive and realize their personal world views. Even if this technology itself isn't inherently evil or bad, these men are using it for evil purposes, raising a series of ethical dilemmas and concerns.
