Chapter 4: Intellectual Property

Even though the Men's Association lied to Joanna about the intended use of the voice recordings that she provided, and used them in unauthorized ways, her voice is not protected under copyright law. However, there is more wiggle-room in regards to her likeness being used in unauthorized ways. Since the Men's Association used her name and likeness to create another "Joanna", it's possible that some states would recognize a "right to publicity" violation. Though, it is unlikely since she is not famous. Alternatively, it's possible that because "Dis" used to work for Disneyland and it's implied that he's using the same technology (or at least expanding upon the same technology) that Disney used for their animatronics, there could be some type of trademark, patent, or trade secret infringement that's involved in the creation of these new robots.
