Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a common condition caused by repeated wrist strain, affecting millions of workers in industries ranging from office environments to manufacturing. It occurs when the median nerve in the wrist becomes compressed, leading to pain, numbness, weakness, and reduced hand function. Current treatments typically address the problem only after symptoms appear, and most existing wrist braces are passive devices that restrict motion rather than actively preventing harmful movement patterns. The Ventrilo-Wrist project aims to change this approach by developing a smart, wearable wrist brace that continuously monitors wrist position in real time. Using small motion sensors, the device detects potentially harmful wrist angles and repetitive strain before injury develops. The goal is to promote healthier wrist habits and reduce long-term injury risk without significantly interfering with everyday activities like typing or manual work. By combining accurate motion tracking with ergonomic analysis, this technology has the potential to reduce workplace injuries, lower healthcare costs, and improve quality of life for individuals at risk of developing CTS.
