My name is Sriaditya Vaddadi and I am currently a junior at Mass Academy. I came to MAMS from Westborough High School. I have a younger brother who already is a “nerd” in his favorite subjects, just like me :) Here are some fun facts about me: My favorite number is 25, as I was born on 6/25 (which both contains a 25 and is 25^2 [625]) and my brother was born on 2/5. My favorite color seems to arbitrarily switch between green and blue. My favorite school subjects are math and physics, but outside of academics, I have many hobbies, including math competitions, chess, music, and Rubik's cubing. Click on the buttons below to learn more about them!
Exciting, I know! Outside of Math class, I do EVEN MORE MATH! As outlandish as it may seem, however, I enjoy these competitions. One of these is the AMC (American Math Competition) a yearly contest held by the Mathematical Association of America. I have qualified for the second round of this competition, AIME (American Invitational Mathematics Examination), twice (9th and 10th grade). Outside of the AMC, I have participated in WOCOMAL (Worcester County Mathematics League) and came in the top 10 in 9th grade and in third place last year. I have also competed in many other competitions, such as ARML (American Regions Mathematics League), MAML (Massachusetts Mathematics League), HMMT (Harvard-MIT Math Tournament), MMaths, and some local competitions as well.
While I do not really play at many in-person chess tournaments anymore, I still love to play with friends (especially here at Mass Academy) and online. I may not be an amazing chess player, but I do enjoy the game.
I play two instruments, piano and trombone! I love to compose my own music on an app known as MuseScore, and I love to calm my mind by sitting down and playing random melodies on my piano. I was a part of the Concert Band (I was supposed to be in Symphonic Band this year) and Marching Band at my sending school, Westborough. I have also participated in many piano recitals and band concerts, including a MICCA Gold Festival at Mechanics Hall in Worcester!
My eight-year-old brother got into speedcubing a few months ago and dragged me into it alongside him. I have not participated in any cubing competitions due to my insanely slow times. For example, my fastest solve ever was only around 30 seconds, and you must understand that this is with no pressure and at home. The world record in competition is 3.13 seconds held by Max Park, who had a huge crowd watching over him. My fastest 2 by 2 solve is a bit better, sitting at a decent 2.98 seconds, but even my brother, who is half my age, has a 1.03 second solve. I have been to cubing competitions, however, since my brother has participated in a few competitions. Still, going to all these competitions means that my brother and I get to have a ton of fun together. (My brother's WCA profile: Sriaarush WCA )
One of the graduation requirements for Mass Academy is that students do 100 hours of community service over
the two years they are at the school. 50 of these have to be completed by the start of senior year and the other 50 by the end of senior year.
So far this year, I have done all my community service through school sponsored events, and want to do a lot of volunteering over the summer (summer hours can count for either the junior or senior year requirement!)
Early on in the school year, I got 10 volunteer hours by teaching STEM week lessons to middle schoolers! This event was super fun, as I was able to teach
forensics, which covered many different fascinating ways that detectives could (possibly) solve a mystery. Preparing for the event required us to actually first
have someone (Mrs. Ludes) teach us the lesson, and then had us make presentations which we then presented to her about the lesson. Once these presentations were done,
it was time for the actual event, where we could teach the lesson to middle schoolers. Overall, the event was super fun and I would definitely do it again if I could!
I have also volunteered at Mass Academy "information sessions" multiple times - this usually doesn't involve very much, just keeping control of the traffic inside
and outside of whatever room you are assigned to, but I thought it was pretty fun and also pretty cool seeing all of the incoming juniors who were thinking of applying to MAMS!
Over the summer, I am planning to volunteer at Grafton's Community Harvest Project, which, as the name suggests, is basically a farm where anyone can volunteer from 9-12 on most days of the week.
It sounds super fun, and I can't wait to do it this summer!
