WELCOME to Humanities, taught by Mrs. Small! In this course, we learn about all things "human". From the history of humankind to asking deep and introspective questions about race, ethnicity, and culture, our Humanities course will provide you with a fresh new perspective on humanity as a whole. Personally, I think that Humanities (alongside French) are pretty chill! Or, at least as chill as a MAMS course can get... Personally, I have had a lot of fun with Humanities so far, such as when I wrote my own satirical piece with a friend, or when I performed an entire skit based off of Henry David Thoreau's Walden!
Here is one of the two main essays that we have done so far this year, an essay about school.
Normally, you do not get a lot of freedom
when writing an essay for school, but in this case, it was completely the opposite.
Not only did we get to choose our own prompt,
but we got to go outside and brainstorm with friends about what we wanted to write about!
I chose to write about the bane of every
student's existence: homework. My verdict? Homework isn't all that bad --- at least if we do it right.
Perhaps you already agree with me,
most likely you don't. Whatever the case may be, I hope you read my essay and at least learn something new from it, even if it doesn't
change your mind about homework.
And here is the second of those two essays I mentioned before --- a satirical analysis.
The Satire unit was super fun, especially when
we got to make our own satires. We were gifted a lot of freedom for this essay as well.
This time, rather than being able to choose the prompt,
we were instead able to choose the satire that we wanted to analyze.
I chose a relatively unknown Telugu film called Sudigadu (or at least, a
2 minute clip from it) and
compared it to an actual persuasive piece about the topic that it is satirizing: the death of the Bollywood industry
due to its overdone and over-exaggerated tropes.
Even if you aren't in the mood to read another essay right now, I would recommend you watch the
YouTube clip, since it's (in my opinion at least) pretty funny.
