Ever since 6th grade, I have taken French as a language. As a result, I was placed in the Advanced French class to further my listening, writing, and speaking skills. However, Madame Wildfong’s class is unlike any other class I have been a part of; through numerous engaging activities, whether it be making models out of Play-Doh or directing our own movies, we are able to immerse ourselves into the French language as a whole.
One assignment that I really enjoyed doing was the “Recette” (Recipe) Assignment, which is shown on the left. I was assigned Bannock bread, a Canadian food. Due to its ties with French culture, I had to research the recipe for this food. Then, I had to go through the process of making it, which I really enjoyed! I hadn’t really done anything like this before, which is why I thought it was a great assignment overall. I also really liked eating the foods of my classmates and hearing about their experiences making their foods.
In French class, we usually write an essay about the unit we are currently learning about. However, these essays aren’t very traditional; instead, these essays offer prompts that are very fun to work on. On the right is one of these essays that I wrote. It focused on writing a journal in the perspective of a character from the film “Azur et Asmar”. This assignment was extremely intriguing, as I was able to explain the whole movie from a specific character’s POV. This was something I wasn’t really exposed to before, and so, I really liked writing it.
