For one project in Spanish, we were tasked with creating memes. This was a cool project because we had freedom to create any meme that was MAMS related. It was interesting to see some of the other groups. Each section has their own inside jokes, but we can all agree on one thing: we need more sleep. That seemed to be the running theme… Lindsey Paradise and I worked together to create a couple memes, but the ones to the left were my personal favorite.
Translations:
First meme starting from the top left box: there are 24 hours in the day, there are 6 hours of school, there are 19 hours of homework, there are negative 1 hours to sleep.
Second meme: on the button it says, “give me more” (one of Dr. C’s favorite lines and he’s taken quite a liking a la traddución en español)
One of the most famous assignments at this school is the short movie we get to make in our language class. Everything is entirely in Spanish, from communication within our groups to the actual movie itself. We come up with the plot, create a storyboard, and film the entire thing. My group decided to do a spin-off of the classic and beloved board game Clue. People start disappearing one by one at the school, and we must use clues to figure out who is responsible before it’s too late. We only get one chance to figure out who it is, and if we guess wrong…
It can be a little difficult trying to develop an entire storyline in a second language (just a little), but it definitely helps develop speaking skills. For example, the hardest part about speaking for me is coming up with words quickly enough to carry on a conversation. Through group work though, you get used to having to say ideas quickly and even use different words to get your point across.
