stem 2

STEM 2 is also taught by Dr. Crowthers. In STEM 2, we work in groups of three or four to develop an assistive technology project that is intended to help a client in our community. We develop prototypes for our assigned project, communicate with clients, and design and run experiments to develop our product. At the end of the project, we present our final design at a fair and deliver our working prototype to the client. For this project, I worked in a group with Maxi Attiogbe and Darshan Krishnaswamy.

Problem Description Individuals with dysphagia or limited esophageal motor function have difficulty swallowing food and require additional time to eat meals, which often leads to hot food becoming cold while they are eating.

Approach: The current approach to a prototype that our group decided to take was to develop a plate with a cavity meant to hold hot/boiling water. The water would continuously heat the plate and the food that it held through convection.

This is the poster file that my group constructed to present at the Virtual STEM 2 Fair at the end of May. It displays our requirements, design studies, prototype, as well as conclusions and future work. The majority of this project was completed remotely.
