Taught by Ms. Burns, Math Modeling is a course in which we learn how to model real-world problems using mathematical techniques. We participate in a variety of competitions and challenges throughout the school year and work on projects that involve utilizing a deeper understanding of the mathematical content and applying it to solve problems in the real-world. Scroll below to learn more about some work I've been doing this year in Math Modeling.
Modeling the Future (MTFC) is a modeling competition which focuses on the actuarial sciences. During the competition, we work in teams to solve a real-world problem using mathematical modeling. Attached here is a link to the scenario project we worked on for the competition, which involved analyzing data from a fictional health insurance company (Insuracare) and making predictions on new policies to implement.
This mini-project involves analyzing data from a fictional school that is looking to add a significant amount of students to their upcoming freshman class. My group and I used the existing class data and distributions to make predictions for what the future class would need to take year-by-year and ultimately make a conclusion on which departments should have teachers added to them.
