AI Visionaries Club is the club I founded at Westford Academy. I always wanted to learn more about Artificial Intelligence and also do research. However, I didn’t have a platform to do either of these through my school. This is when I decided to found AI Visionaries Club. The goal of this club was to create a platform and community for students to learn about AI together, network, and compete by doing research. One of the things that I am most proud of for this club is how we had rotating presentations from different club members each week. This structure allowed us to learn different information from different students and really expand our knowledge.
I’ve competed in DECA since 9th grade. DECA is an international business competition. I chose to go in a marketing track because I was interested in marketing, especially social media marketing, since I saw the impact it was having on my life and on so many other people’s lives. In both years, I advanced to Internationals and placed top 10 test score in my category twice. In addition, one year I was among the top 20 overall finalists internationally. Not only did I learn marketing concepts and skills because of DECA, but I also learned critical thinking, communication skills, and how to think on my feet.
I played on the tennis team at Westford Academy for two seasons so far. I’ve been playing tennis since I was 6 and I really enjoy playing tennis. However, one of the best parts of playing on the tennis team for my school was how it took the sport from an individual sport to a team sport. Some of my best memories from the season are cheering on my fellow teammates in their matches. I bonded with all my teammates from the tennis team.
For my junior year community service, I completed 40 hours volunteering with the Westford Youth Basketball Association. I was a coach, along with two peers, to a team of 12 3rd and 4th-grade girls. I taught them basketball and coached them through the games over the season. Every week, I would run practices, and every weekend, I would coach the players at the game. Although I was learning basketball, I learned essential skills along the way, such as communication, motivation, organization, and planning, while preparing for practices and games. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to teach these young girls basketball and, hopefully, give them an experience that was fun and a community they enjoyed being part of, as I once did when I was part of the recreational basketball program.
I have not yet completed all 50 of my Junior Year hours. For the next 10 hours, I plan to volunteer at my local senior center and food pantry. I am excited to help my local community by ensuring every family has food and supporting our local senior citizens. Some ways I will help out include restocking the food pantry, organizing files, and helping senior citizens with technology, among other things.
