Analyzing the Developmental Effect of AKH Suppression on Drosophila Memory

SIGNIFICANCE

Hormones play a powerful role in shaping how the brain develops, but we still do not fully understand how altering hormones during childhood or adolescence might affect memory later in life. This project uses fruit flies as a model to study how temporarily suppressing a hormone during early development changes learning and memory in adulthood. Because the hormone being studied is similar to one used in certain medical treatments in humans, this research helps us better understand the potential long-term effects of hormonal interventions on the developing brain. Ultimately, the goal is to improve our understanding of how early biological changes can shape lifelong cognitive health.
