Math Modeling

Class Description

The Math Modeling Class is taught by Ms. Burns. It requires abstract thinking and doesn’t follow a usual subject-subject curriculum. The problems completed are advanced and challenging, but they allow us to stretch our minds while ultimately leading to a growth in perspective.

Epsilon Presentation

Our first math modeling presentation encompassed the following problem: With the incoming sophomore class larger than usual, Epsilon School is hiring 7 new teachers. How should they be distributed fairly amongst departments? In this question, there was no correct answer, and every group could have had a different way to distribute the new teachers. I worked with Matthew Smith and Abhikhya Sonti to achieve the goal of practicing modeling and predicting the future of the Epsilon School. As long as your solution was justifiable, it was correct.

MTFC

In the Math Modeling class we participate in many different challenges, the largest one being Modeling the Future Challenge, or MTFC. Over the course of many weeks, our group, Megan Ashun, Palak Yadav, Hartej Anand, Gustavo Rodriguez, and I, worked to answer 19 different prompts to develop and practice modeling skills.
