Humanities

Class Description

Humanities is taught by Ms. Small. It is a writing intensive class, with Journals due usually every week, and the occasional in-class essay. We study humans, and what it means to be human. Discussions in class happen often, usually diving into topics such as society, and diversity.

Education Essay

For this assignment, we were allowed to choose our own prompt if it entailed an argument regarding education. We were encouraged to use our personal voice in writing and allowed to experiment with formatting and structure, deviating from the usual 5-paragraph 3-point essay if we chose to do so. In my essay, I argued that the ranking system in schools was detrimental towards a student’s health and well-being.

Original Satire

Our satire unit was very interesting. We read different pieces of satire and analyzed them, and the devices used to make it a well-written piece. For one of the assignments, we chose a partner to work with and created our own satire piece on the topic of our choosing. My partner, Heidy Rodriguez and I worked to create the script of a podcast episode titled, “The Left-Handed Conundrum” which proposed the idea of removing left-handedness.
