Hello everyone! My name is Jack Thompson, and I am currently a junior at Mass Academy of Math and Science. I've lived in Sutton most of my life, and before coming here I went to Sutton High School. I live with my parents, brother, dog Amanda, two cats Zelda and Jaspers, and my betta fish. I love my friends, crocheting, and my favorite book is the Perks of Being a Wallflower.
One thing about me is I love to try new things. At Sutton I was a part of the FRC team, pep/jazz band, National Honors Society, theatre club (as tech), BVCCB, track, and some other things. When I was in 7th grade, I joined my schools FRC Team 8544 or "Reinforcement" and it quickly became a big part of my life. It was very big time commitment, but the friends and memories I made along the way made it worth it. Back then, I was a team captain and led the programming/electrical subteam for a year, and before that I did mechanical for three years. I think it is an awesome program and being on a small team really allowed me to try everything there was. Competitions are the best part of robotics, they are weekend-long events where we get to put our robot to the test with other teams. Last year, my team won our first competition EVER at the UVM event! I also did a lot of volunteering for robotics at FLL competitions and outreach events. It's very fun, and of course getting community service hours is nice if you need them. Obviously I was sad to leave my team but luckily I joined 190 here at MAMS. I have also been happy to join math team and Red Cross club during A term.
Music has always been a big part of my life since I joined band as a percussionist in 5th grade. Although I played trombone for pep and jazz band percussion remained my main instrument. I absolutely love to learn different instruments and can almost all of the common ones, and accordian. Here is a link to a performance I was in playing percussion! I’m the taller one in the back with short hair: Here. Community band was super fun because I got to play more advanced music because the group was mainly adults. Very sadly, because of the schedule of Mass Academy and not attending Sutton, I had to quit most of my music groups (for now... ). However, I still play at home quite a bit. My all time favorite piece is Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral by Richard Wagner, it is absolutely beautiful. I'm currently learning it on piano. Warning if you are applying to Mass Academy right now, unfortunatly you can not really do both robotics and WPI band, the schedules conflict too much. Performance isn’t all I do, I LOVE to listen to music too. Some of my favorites are Cap 'n Jazz, Chinatown by Jets to Brazil, Pierce the Veil, Simon and Garfunkel, In the Aeroplane Over the Sea and so much more! Please be my friend on Spotify Here!
Outside of those I love to bake, create art, walk, and be outside. I really love to crochet in my free time, I learned to crochet in 4th grade and have been doing it on and off when I have time. This summer I made a bunch of things including this couch for my cats (which they love). Earlier this summer, I also went to a Pierce the Veil concert. Even though I have only been to three concerts I would say I enjoy them. I went to a Weezer concert here in Worcester in 2023, and two Pierce the Veil concerts. I am a big lover of nature, I think being outside is the most at peace I can be. I like to take super aesthetic photos when I'm in the woods like the one below, I also press flowers in a journal then tape them down so they stay permanent.
