The Math Modeling course at Mass Academy is taught by Ms. Durost. It is a combination of traditional math education and applicable math modeling work. The math modeling portion of the course teaches students how to use Microsoft Excel for statistics, how to do different statistical tests, and challenges students to think beyond the barriers of conventional math courses. Students participate in various math modeling competitions such as HiMCM, MTFC, and MathWorks. Problem-solving based learning math allows students to learn math concepts in algebra, geometry, and precalculus, and the class emphasizes critical thinking over rote memorization.

MTFC Project Proposal

MTFC, Modeling the Future Challenge, is a long term math modeling competition where students must choose a real-world problem to model with math and make recommendations based on the model on how to improve a given situation. I chose to do my project on the impacts of AI data centers on the environment, specifically, carbon emissions, water consumption, and energy usage. Here is my project proposal.

Happy Birthday POW

In our math class, we are occasionally given problems to solve with a group over the course of a week. We are tasked with providing a write-up that documents our understanding of the problem, our problem-solving process, our solution, and problem extensions we may have developed. The problem shown here is about finding the day of the week for a given date.
