In Mass Academy, English and History is combined into one class called Humanities. In Humanities, we cover a wide variety of topics, which can range from poetry from Ancient Egypt to how stereotypes effect people and the world around us.
Original Satire Project
For our creative writing project, we were assigned to create an original piece of satire with a partner. Satire is the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule in order to criticize a certain aspect of society. For our project, we decided to criticize Apple and the people that blindly follow the company by creating a script for a fake Apple commercial. We were required to implement certain satirical devices, such as irony, in our work. You can see the script here and the slide that came with it here.
Walden Journal
For summer break, our Humanities homework assignment was to read the book Walden and create a journal page for every chapter we read. The book was written by Henry David Thoreau, and in the book he writes about his time living off the land at Walden Pond.You can see the journal here.
