Advanced Physics

Our advanced physics course (taught by Mrs. Chase) models after the AP Physics C Mechanics Course while keeping in mind that some students may not have taken physics in the past. Regardless of whether you’ve taken physics or not, the class has many supports for you to ensure that you succeed. Also, we get to conduct many fun experiments in class and partake in the F = MA exam, which is a physics science competition.

In this assignment, we attempted to determine how long a traffic light at a certain intersection should stay on before the light turns yellow, then red. This was a group assignment, and collaborating on this with our group was a nice experience. This is an A-term assignment was the second time that we did the “Problem of the Week” concept (which started in Math Modeling originally).

In physics, Dynamics is the study of how forces affect motion. For instance, using dynamics, we can see how the friction of our shoes prevent us from slipping, or how force of gravity keeps us from accelerating into space. In this lab, our group tried to see if varying the fan speed would slow down a cart moving down a ramp. Our results indicated that this was the case.
