Math Modeling

Mathematics Modeling is a class that introduces the key mathematical concepts that we will need for interdisciplinary studies (such as Modular Arithmetic for Computer Science or Statistics for STEM) and challenges us to create the formulas and strategies with our peers before going over them as a whole class. This class, taught by Mrs. Durost, is a collaborative environment where students often work together to solve challenging and complex problems, helping us develop the analytical and critical thinking skills we will need for the rest of our lives.

This is a proposal for a national group Actuarial (or Data Analytics) project called Modeling the Future Challenge. In MTFC, teams are challenged to examine an issue in our society, use statistics to discover why this issue exists, then use these findings to suggest strategies for preventing this issue in the future. Our team – the Myriad of Magnanimous Moderators – chose to focus on the effects of online gaming on young people’s mental health, which the proposal doc goes into more detail on.

HiMCM is a national high school mathematical modeling challenge in which teams of MAMS students were given 50 hours to thoroughly analyze a scenario mathematically. Here is the report for our Practice Round, which tasked us with creating a system to determine the best roller coaster.
