In Humanities, students read and write about many different humanities subjects including but not limited to English Language, History, Economics, Philosophy, Geography, and English Literature. This course greatly develops the critical thinking skills of students and pushes them to consider different perspectives as well as writing techniques. The course also pushes students to interconnect ideas throughout history to different humanities subjects, further developing their understanding of humanities as a whole.
The first essay of the year was to be written on a topic that involved the American education system in some way. For my topic I chose to discuss how the specialized education systems used in certain countries are better than the general education system that countries like the USA employ. In this essay I used various different sources which offered opinions and statistics to back my argument and even delved into a counterargument which did not make logical sense.
The second essay of the year was to be written on a chosen piece of satire. The piece of satire which I chose was the Saturday Night Live Episode “Hotel Check-In”. This episode of Saturday Night Live satirized the hotel check-in process, and specifically the aggressive advertising and consumer unfriendly environment. As a result, I did a satirical analysis and analyzed many different satirical devices to show how the objective of the satire was met.
