STEM 1, instructed by Dr. Crowthers, is one of the most unique courses offered at Mass Academy. While most classes taught at other schools have similar assignments, reports, and requirements, STEM 1 is completely different. Students in this class are granted the amazing opportunity to pursue research in a field of their interest, allowing them the ability to deepen their passion for learning. Dr. Crowthers oversees the development of every student’s project, providing assistance whenever possible with various parts of the procedure, such as contacting professionals, writing technical documents, and more. Dr. Crowthers aspires to have his students simultaneously learn an extensive amount about their field but also leave an impact within it.
While typically photovoltaic modules, more commonly known as solar panels, are stationary in their position. Many industrial solar panels have gradually adjusted from stationary to single and dual axis tracking in recent times. My project aspires to integrate dual-axis solar tracking technology into the residential sphere, allowing for novel reseearch to take place regarding the energy and economic benefits for consumers. Through conducting this research project, it became evident that the Return-on-Investment (ROI) period is 16% faster for dual-axis tracking compared to fixed-tracking.
