Humanities!

Humanities is a class taught by Mrs. Small. In this class, everything we discuss is meant to answer the central question, "What does it mean to be human?". We discuss topics such as education, race, human origins, etc. However, one of the most notable things we do in this class is read Walden, a book by Henry David Thoreau. Currently, we are talking about race and identity and discovering key differences between the words race and ethnicity.

Satire Essay

We just finished our unit on Satire, where we wrote essays regarding satire. Although there were different prompt options, I chose the option where I analyzed whether a satirical version or a non-satirical version or the same argument was more effective in persuading the reader. For my essay, I looked at the way Boeing responded to its plane crashes. SatireWire and Beasley Allen (a law firm) talked about Boeing's response in different ways, and so I analyzed which way was more effective.

Walden Skit

For every Mass Academy student, Bourndale is a rite of passage where the school retreats into the wilderness for a few days. During this time, students get to present their skits on the book Walden, which they read during the summer. My group consisted of Me, Evan, Hannah and Vatsal. To the right is a picture of us during our skit! Our skit mainly revolved around Thoreou, his mom (who we named Cynthia), the woodcutter (me!), and Bob, who was a random townsperson. With all these characters, we tried to highlight Thoreau's contradictory behaviour, hypocrisy, and ignorance. Overall, we had a pretty fun time developing and performing this skit!
