Humanities is taught by Mrs. Small where students explore ideas and concepts about the world around them. It is quite unlike any traditional approach to English and History instruction but I enjoy the course content much more. Deep discussions of concepts affecting the world around them are prioritized in class where students can express different views and share thoughts. Writing in the course is also highly personalized to the student which gives them a lot more freedom to write about topics and still practice skills learned in class.
Our Walden skits were performed at Bournedale shortly after school started. Over the summer we were assigned to read the book Walden by Henry David Thoreau, reading the book was a very interesting experience but it left some memorable impressions. The goal of our Walden skits was to create some sort of skit involving different elements from the Walden book itself. Being able to creatively incorporate elements from Walden and also add our own elements was very fun and I enjoyed it a lot. Our skit was a take on how Thoreau would react to the current world in 2023. You can view some pictures from the skit here.
Our education essay was assigned after our unit on education in the US. We learned a lot about the origins of the American teaching system and how schools tend to teach material to kids. We learned about the different approaches to schooling with different economic goals in mind as well. The essay we were assigned was to write about any topic about education as a whole. I decided to take a more modern approach and consider the implications of AI on education and how the education system can adapt to grow from this tool. You can read my full essay here.
