Math Modeling

Math Modeling is a course taught by Ms. Durost, in which students explore topics such as number theory, statistics, and vectors. Students learn to apply their knowledge to real world situations through problems of the week, challenge problems, and competitions such as the Modeling the Future Challenge and the High School Mathematical Contest in Modeling.

MTFC Project Proposal

Modeling the Future Challenge (MTFC) is a research competition for high school students to explore math modeling, risk analysis, and actuarial science. Students model real-world data regarding their chosen topic, analyze risks, and make recommendations. After brainstorming, my group decided to address the issue of rising carbon dioxide levels. We plan to create a model that can predict future emission levels and the corresponding environmental effects. To learn more, you can view our full proposal on the right →

Practice HiMCM

The High School Mathematical Contest in Modeling (HiMCM) is an international competition designed for high school students to work with their team and use math modeling and problem-solving skills to solve a challenging problem. In preparation for the 2025 HiMCM competition, we formed groups and solved a past HiMCM problem. Our group chose to work on the 2018 HiMCM Problem A, which focused on developing an objective system to rank roller coasters. To learn more, you can find our full solution on the right →
