Humanities is a discussion-based course taught by Ms. Small. It is an overlap of History and English where we analyze text, documentaries, and videos to answer the essential question: “What does it mean to be human?”
As part of our summer work, we had to read the infamous Walden by Henry David Thoreau. After sharing our thoughts and reflections on the memoir at the beginning of the year, we were tasked with creating a skit related to Walden. Daniel, Matthew, Samhitha, and I wrote a spin on Carpool Karaoke with James Cordon. We performed parodies of Baby by Justin Bieber, Single Ladies by Beyonce, and a rap battle to Family Ties by Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem.
One of my favorite units in Humanities so far has been satire. In this unit, we read various satirical pieces and learned about their purpose of addressing issues, whether big or small, in a comical manner. As a part of this, we got to partner up and write a satirical piece of our own. Anika and I wrote satirized Generation Z in our piece, How to Fit into Gen Z: A Manual.
