Spanish

~ SeƱora Wildfong

Before coming to Mass Academy, I had taken Latin for four years as my foreign language. In intermediate Spanish, we focus on learning applicable language skills rather than memorizing endless vocabulary words or grammar rules. With movies and games, this class is fun but educational. Even though there was initially a very clear learning curve, I can now have a basic conversation in Spanish. Scroll down to read about some projects and assignments I have completed through this course.

Art Presentation

Spanish culture is filled with vibrance and art. We did an art presentation where we chose three different works of art from an artist of our choosing. Then, we would have to describe the artworks using descriptions, colors, and prepositions, solely in Spanish.

I chose to talk about art by Tarsilla do Amaral, who was a Brazillian Painter in the 1900s. Please view the presentation to view her artwork. While it was daunting at first, it helped me with my pronunciation, and I was able to learn more about Spanish artwork through the research and from other presentations.

Mi Rutina Del Dia

To get better at writing in Spanish, we are assigned essays throughout the year. Mi Rutina del dia is an essay about my daily routine in Spanish. I wrote about my daily activties and actions from when I wake up to when I go to bed. We had recently learned about reflexive verbs, so I was able to describe my day using many reflexive verbs.

While this essay is mostly made up of simple sentences, it was one of our first essays written completely in Spanish. As someone who has never taken Spanish before, this was an incredibly informative experience, as I learned more about the grammar and sentence structure of Spanish.
