Family and Traveling
My family consists of my mom, dad, sister, and me. Traveling is one of our favorite activities. It's definitely not the easiest (or cheapest) activity on this webpage, but it is definitely one of our favorites. We love going to new places and seeing new things. My two favorite places that I have visited are most likely Disney World and India. My parents are immigrants from India, so we go there frequently. When we travel to India, we usually stay in a southern state called Andhra Pradesh. I hope to visit more places in the future!
Diamond Painting
Although I am not the most artistic person ever, I do enjoy diamond "painting." It is very similar to color-by-number, but with small rhinestones instead. They come in kits and have many different patterns. Sometimes life can be overwhelming, so diamond painting is a great way for me to de-stress and relax. However, they are very time-consuming; the one on the left took me over a month to finish!
Passions
One of my most significant passions is medicine. I hope to become a doctor, specifically a radiologist, and help diagnose specific diseases or cancers. Over the summer, I shadowed a radiologist and was able to learn more about the medical system and observed many Ultrasounds, MRIs, and CT scans. Additionally, I volunteered at Reliant Medical Group in Worcester. I worked in the eye services department to clean rooms, file paperwork, and transport patients to and from the hospital.
Orchestra
I have been playing the violin ever since I was in 4th grade (almost 8 years). I performed at many concerts and even a few solo recitals. I have been playing in my school's orchestra since I was in 5th grade, and now I play for the WPI orchestra. Orchestra is a big part of my life and something I hope to continue in the future.
Math Team
At my sending school, I was on the math team during my freshman and sophomore years. I competed in WOCOMAL between multiple schools and was a top scorer last year. I have competed in many other math competitions since middle school, and I hope to compete in more at Mass Academy. My favorite competition I have competed in is MATHCOUNTS, where there are two rounds of competition. Click this link to learn more about MATHCOUNTS! Competitive math has always been a big part of my life. Occasionally, I go back to my old middle school and coach the middle school math team. As they prepare for MOEMS, I help explain questions and conduct the competitions. Meeting the students and helping them through the complex problems has given me a greater appreciation for the ones who taught me.
Community Service
Even though I was born in America, my parents immigrated from a South-Indian state called Andhra Pradesh, where the official language is Telugu. In 3rd grade, I took Telugu classes from an organization called Siliconandhra Manabadi to learn about my language. After completing the course in 7th grade, I now volunteer and teach other kids Telugu. I read the news in Telugu for the All India Radio, and I MC at local events and functions. Volunteering as a tutor has not only helped me embrace my culture but also allowed me to help other kids do the same. Click this link to learn more!
