Humanities has helped me strengthen my analytical skills by reading and interpreting influential works by many different authors. We are initially taught the analytical process via in-class readings, after which we are expected to apply the same level of analysis to other works. This understanding is assessed through in-class essays or essays focused on selected literary works.

Friday Black Analysis

This in-class writing assignment asked us to analyze how satire is used in Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah’s “Friday Black” to critique social issues such as consumerism and capitalism. My response focuses on identifying specific satirical techniques (like reduction and anticlimax) and explaining how they convey the author’s message.

Analysis of Gandhi's Letter

This in-class timed writing assignment required us to analyze Gandhi’s letter to Lord Irwin and explain how he uses rhetorical strategies to justify civil disobedience. My response focuses on identifying appeals to ethos, pathos, and moral reasoning to show how Gandhi establishes credibility and persuades his audience through a calm and principled tone.
