French

French is a fully immersive class taught by Mrs. Wildfong, meaning we are only allowed to speak our target language during class time. Before Mass Academy, I took two years of Italian at my sending school, so French was a completely new language to me at the start of the year. When I first walked in, and Mrs. Wildfong started to speak French, I thought it would be over for me because I couldn’t understand any of it. However, through our activities and projects, I was able to quickly pick up the language and understand what was going on around me at least a little better than I did before. French has been an amazing experience, as I learn more and more each day, and I’m always surprised by how much I am able to understand the language.

Memes

One of the first projects that we did in French was creating simple memes in French. Every week, Mrs. Wildfong posts a new meme on her bulletin board, and a lot of them are actually pretty funny. This was a really fun activity to do because our final product didn’t have to be something serious, and I remember learning a lot of new phrases through this activity.

Recette

For this project, we got to choose a dish from France to recreate and give a presentation on. We then got to have a big feast where everyone brought in their creations to share, and it was a lot of fun. I worked in a group for this project, so we ended up making three separate dishes, but I was in charge of the croque monsieurs, which is basically a fancy grilled ham and cheese. I really enjoyed this project because I was able to work with my friends, and it was a really funny and chaotic experience with all of us cooking. It was also a good challenge presenting to the class because I had to think about pronunciation and grammar as I was speaking.
