Humanities

In place of History and English, Humanities serves toward answering one central question: What does it mean to be human? Although we have not, and probably will not, find a perfect answer to that question, each day we work towards getting one step closer. Through interpreting different authors, from Henry David Thoreau to Emma Lazarus, we have realized the importance of the growth of ourselves, the nation, and the world. Most notably, I enjoyed analyzing different satirical pieces because I was able to see the various ways that one unified message could be communicated. Through my essay, I was able to uncover some gaps that I would like to address to make myself a better writer in the future. Mrs. Small and I focus on having a growth mindset every class to ensure that we can obtain this goal.

Walden Skit

Over the summer, we read the book Walden by Henry David Thoreau. Upon our entry to Mass Academy, we started to work on a skit that had some connection with Thoreau and his view of the world. Our group decided to take a comedic approach for the skit. Our skit teleports Thoreau to the current world where he criticizes modern advancements. The title of the skit is called "I experienced Moderna-ty".

Education Essay

During A-term, we focused on the evolution of education in the United States. We read immense amounts of literature on this topic to have a deep understanding of the origins, how it has changed and what current problems are with the system. For this assignment, we were tasked to write an essay on one aspect that is missing in the education or requires change. I focused on the lack of emotional education and why it is important to implement that into our regular school system.
