The Humanities course explores the concept of what it means to be human and what makes each of us unique. So far, we have delved into sociocultural issues such as identity, race and ethnicity, and education. The course also provides an opportunity for creativity, as seen in projects like our original satire and Walden skit.

Walden Journal

In keeping with MAMS tradition, we read Walden by Henry David Thoreau over the summer and kept a running journal of our thoughts on each chapter of the book (left). Thoreau's Walden chronicles his four-year retreat to a cabin near Walden Pond, where he sought solitude and reflection. Reading Thoreau’s work was truly a journey, as it was both challenging and time-consuming to fully grasp the depth of his messages.

Walden Skit

As an introductory assignment to MAMS and our fellow classmates, we were tasked with creating skits based on Walden to perform during Bournedale, a multi-day overnight field trip for juniors. My group, consisting of Vatsal, Hannah, Vyshanvi, and myself, chose to create a skit about one of Thoreau's dinners. In our skit, Thoreau's judgmental nature caused all of his guests to leave early. I played the character of Bob Smith.
