Hi, I'm David Baker

About Me

My name is David Baker and I am a junior at Mass Academy of Math and Science. I am a 16 year old from Grafton, Massachusetts. I live with my mom, dad, sister, and my Goldendoodle named Bear. At first, I was hesitant to leave Grafton, my sending school, because that would mean moving away from my friends, but at the same time, I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and look for more of a challenge. I was also nervous at first, but the students and staff at Mass Academy were very welcoming to everyone.

Travel

My family and I love traveling and we've been to several places that I've loved and will always remember. From local day trips to Boston to traveling abroad, all of them will have a special place in my heart forever. We've been to Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Venezuela, and most recently, Italy. Having family and people to visit in these countries makes it a lot easier to travel. Some of my favorite places I've seen are the Colosseum in Rome, Italy, and the Blue Grotto which was also in Italy. However, despite having a few favorite spots I've been to, all of them were a great experience and very fun for my family and me.

Free Time

In my free time, I pursue lots of interests, but the most prevalent is soccer. I have watched and played soccer since I was 4 years old for my town and club as well. My favorite team growing up has always been Real Madrid, mostly because of Cristiano Ronaldo, because as I watched them play, there were elements I could use myself. As I grew up, I continued to watch and play more soccer and grew my play style by switching positions until I found one that best suited me. I found that I not only performed best at Center Back and Center Defensive Midfielder, but these were the positions I enjoyed the most. I played for my high school in freshman and sophomore year and also switched to a more competitive club. With this in mind, I also go to the gym to make sure I stay in shape not only for the soccer season, but for my mental and physical health. On top of this, I also recently picked up snowboarding at Wachusett Mountain and fell in love with it and I plan on sticking with it in the future.

Community Service

Junior and senior year we all need to do at least 100 hours of community service - 50 in junior year and 50 senior year with at least 10 in each year being "high needs". So far, I have a few hours from volunteering at a STEM day at an elementary school where we set up some fun activities to teach various aged kids about STEM related topics. For example, my group did some Forensics with one of the stations being something where they had to guess each others hand writings based on certain tendencies.

For the rest of my hours this year, I plan to volunteer at a local soup kitchen over the summer.
