Math Modeling is a class taught by Ms. Burns. In Math Modeling, we both cover a typical math curriculum, and participate in various Math Modeling Competitions.
Every Mass Academy student participates in the Modeling the Future Challenge (MTFC). Groups pick a real-life risk and use mathematical models, along with publicly available data, to assess risks and suggest risk mitigation strategies. Our project focuses on the environmental risks associated with carbon emissions from the ongoing war in Gaza. Since the conflict began over a year ago, the intensified use of vehicles, planes, and bombs, along with their production, has significantly increased carbon emissions. These emissions contribute to global environmental challenges such as global warming, air pollution, and sea level rise.
Another assignment I worked on for Math was designing a mathemetical model for deciding the number of teachers in each department a hypothetical school should include. We then gave a presentation justifying our assumptions and reasons for valuing certain criteria.
