In Advanced Spanish, we dive deep into the language through immersive learning that helps us build both our vocabulary and speaking skills. Each term, we add 120 new words to our vocab journals, writing definitions in our own language to make them easier to remember and understand. Our teacher Sra. Wildfong creates a supportive and engaging classroom environment where we feel comfortable speaking and learning from making mistakes. The class is taught entirely in Spanish, which helps us practice listening and speaking in real-world contexts. We watch Spanish movies, read texts from various Spanish-speaking cultures, and do fun activities to fully embrace the language. By the end of each term, we not only learn new words but also gain a deeper understanding of how to use them naturally, improving our fluency and connection to the language.
In class, we worked on an original Spanish essay describing an eventful event we experienced as a child. For this essay, I wrote about my favorite vacation, which I went on with my family when I was younger. This was a memorable trip and it was interesting to describe all my eventful moments in a language I am not used to writing in. Not only was it a fun essay to write, it was a memorable experience that taught me a lot.
Each term, we got the opportunity to practice our listening skills by watching media in Spanish. We then recorded what we watched as well as wrote summaries of the content to show our understanding. This activity not only allowed us to get an opportunity to listen to fun Spanish shows but also helped us improve our listening and writing skills.
