Welcome to Math Modeling! This is no ordinary math class, as it utilizes ideas and techniques from all sections of mathematics. From calculus, to trigonometry, to number theory, all students from any math background will be able to gain new understanding of a plethora of math subjects.
MTFC Project
MTFC is a math competition that all students at Mass Academy participate in. It is completed in groups, where each group identifies an issue or risk that they want to create a mitigation strategy for. They are tasked with researching, gathering data, and choosing/designing a model and strategy to help or solve the risk. My group has identified the risk of invasive species, and are working towards potential insurance, and arrival reduction strategies.
Birthday POW
POWs, short for problem of the week, are some of the most engaging challenges in math. They invite new ideas and strategies to be used, as they don't necessarily have only one solution. They are also a great way to work with others that you might not immediately think to work with. THe writeups, both group and personal, are also good ways to reflect on your work, and apply it to new situations.
