Language

Both French and Spanish are taught by Madame Wildfong at Mass Academy. As you might've guessed from the "Madame," I take French. This is actually my first year taking French in high school since I've studied Latin for the past four years. I took one year of French in sixth grade, but I did not retain much other than the alphabet. In order to help us understand the language more, we only speak in the target language during class. It can be daunting at first but Madame Wildfong does a good job of creating an environment where you feel comfortable speaking.

Memes

One of the Foreign Language Mass Academy traditions is creating memes in your target language. What’s special about the memes though, is that they are inspired by your experience at Mass Academy. This results in a slew of inside jokes that can be understood by everyone, not just the individuals who take French or Spanish. Everyone had a lot of fun referencing the parts of Mass Academy that make Mass Academy Mass Academy. Try to figure out what the memes I created say!

Soupe d’oignon français

Everyone at MAMS looks forward to the day when everyone in your individual language class brings in a dish from a Francophone, or Hispanic if you take Spanish, country. Instead of bringing in your own lunch, you get to have a potluck with the rest of your peers. Since France is spoken all over the world, from Canada to Algeria to Switzerland and more, I was able to try a lot of really good dishes. I personally made French onion soup also known as Soupe d’oignon français en français. After the food was shared, a presentation was using photos taken during the cooking process.
